During ther Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD) burial figurines were very popular.  Thsse clay statues depicted a variety of figurines, including horses, soldiers, and guards whose primary purpose was accompany the deceased in tombs, so most had single glazes. During the Han Dynasty, female figiurines became very popular.  While they served decorative and gifting purposes, their main use was in burial rituals.
