A Chinese Tapestry is a grid composed of threads that are fixed on a large frame known as a loom.  Verticle threads are known as warps and horizonal threads are known as wefts.  The wefts on this piece are actually a collection of wool threads in all different colors.  Chinese tapestries often depict a wide range of subjects, including historical events, mythological  scenes, landscapes, and floral motifs.
